New Release: GDPR-Compliant Council Tax Band Data — Now Available

Unlike other grey-market sources or data scrapers, our dataset is 100% GDPR compliant

Organisations can now access a single, comprehensive dataset of UK Council Tax bands and precepts — clean, structured, and ready to use.

Why This Matters

If you’ve ever tried to gather Council Tax data across the UK, you’ll know it’s one of the most fragmented datasets in the public domain.

  • 324 local authorities
  • 11,600+ unique tax combinations
  • Disparate formats (PDFs, dynamic web pages, spreadsheets)
  • Missing publications and patchy availability
  • Frequent need for Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
  • And even refusals from councils citing restricted access (Malvern District Council)

This is a tax that affects nearly every household in the UK, yet the data infrastructure around it is outdated, inconsistent — and in some cases — deliberately difficult to access.

That ends now!

What We’ve Built

After months of painstaking collection, reconciliation, and validation, we’re proud to announce the release of Doorda’s Council Tax Bands Dataset, covering:

  • England Council Tax Bands (based on 1991 property valuations)
  • Wales Council Tax Bands (based on 2003 property valuations)
  • Scotland Council Tax Bands (based on 1991 property valuations)
  • Precept data from parish councils and joint authorities
  • Over 11,600 unique tax band + precept combinations
  • Fully normalised and structured as a single, queryable table

Unlike other grey-market sources or data scrapers, our dataset is 100% GDPR compliant, and every data point is transparently linked back to its original official source.

Use Cases

This dataset is a powerful asset for any organisation working in:

Property & Real Estate

  • Enhance property-level analytics
  • Contextualise council tax costs in valuations and affordability models
  • Identify anomalies in tax band distribution across regions

PropTech & SaaS Platforms

  • Power user-facing applications with local tax intelligence
  • Integrate structured tax data into property search, comparison, and investment tools

Research, Policy & Planning

  • Analyse regional discrepancies in tax bands and precepts
  • Assess fairness and equity in residential taxation
  • Support lobbying for revaluation and reform

Financial Services & Mortgage Lending

  • Estimate recurring costs for affordability models
  • Improve accuracy in long-term financial forecasting for homeowners and investors

Coming Soon: Property-Level Tax Band Assignments

This release focuses on published Council Tax bands and precepts — not the tax band assigned to each address.

But that’s next.

We’re currently working on a model to estimate current property values and map individual addresses to tax bands based on the official thresholds. This will enable:

  • Large-scale identification of mis-banded properties
  • Address-level taxation impact analysis
  • Historical band-to-value comparisons across the UK
