Commercial Occupants
Commercial and Non-Domestic Occupant Data
Our Commercial and Non-Domestic Occupant Data provides the name of the company or organisation paying business rates to a local authority at an address level. This dataset includes charities and local community groups, such as Scouts and similar organisations, but excludes individuals to comply with GDPR regulations.
Key Features of the Data:
- Occupant Information: The data lists the name of the organisation or company paying business rates, along with the date their liability started (in most cases). Unlike other sources that focus on “the name over the door,” this data identifies the entity responsible for paying rates.
- Property Details: While internal property details (e.g., size and use) and the rateable value are included in the Business Rates datasets, this dataset focuses on the registered company or organisation at each location.
- Company Matching: The data includes matched company names and numbers, allowing users to view all the locations occupied by a company, even when operating under different brand names or franchise arrangements. For example, while McDonald’s has numerous locations, this dataset reveals the specific franchisee operating each outlet.
- Coverage: The dataset covers 85% of English and Welsh Local Authorities and is updated monthly. Refresh frequency depends on the local authority, with some updating monthly and others annually. We aim to provide the latest available data each month.
Use Cases:
- Company Location Mapping: Easily link companies to specific locations, understand their geographic footprint, and ascertain the number of units an organisation operates from.
- Business Rates Analysis: Identify what an occupant is expected to pay in business rates and obtain details about the property size and usage.
- Franchise Insights: Distinguish between corporate-owned and franchised locations for brands such as McDonald’s or other multi-location organisations.
Benefits:
This dataset is especially useful for businesses conducting market analysis, property valuation, or investigating occupancy patterns across regions. It provides actionable insights not available in standard property or business rate datasets.
